Dear Parent,
 
The Fall 2010 Session of your child's Chess After School Enrichment Program begins Monday, September 13th and continues until Friday, December 17th. The total cost for all 14 weeks - for one day is $450.00 if registered before August 31st and $550.00 afterwards. Add $150.00 to total cost for each additional day desired. If registered for 4 days the 5th day is FREE. "Pick up"  and /or "walk over" service is available.
 
As the weather permits class may be held outside or in a nearby park.
 
The NYCandG Chess After School Enrichment Program accommodates  all school aged kids of every  skill level, from absolute beginner to experienced tournament player..
 
Parents can indicate area of concentration (academic / h.w. assistance or chess instruction and practice) 
 
Some things that Beginners will learn include: 
Chess Fundamentals - understanding the correct way to set up the chess board, the names of the pieces, how they move, what their numerical point value is, the best places to put them
 
 
Value Recognition/ Decision Making- recognition of good idea content when exchanging pieces, identifying the intent of an opponents move and responding properly, identifying dangerous squares and safe squares when moving   
 
Goal Setting & Achievement- comprehending goals and objectives such as attacking the opposing King, defending against an attack, promoting a pawn to a piece of higher value, achieving checkmate  
 
    
Focus and Concentration - sitting through  and completing a chess game, recording a chess game accurately (reading and writing chess notation), avoiding distractions and maintaining focus until game or contest is completed

Opening Theory and Practical Application 
 
How to recognize proper Middle Game Strategy and Attack Plans
 
To diminish  common mistakes and improve their winning percentage
